"Yesterday, August 25, 800 miles southwest of Buenos Aires at Bariloche an incident of students attending a German-language school in Argentina were accused of offending Jewish students from ORT school at a resort while wearing fake Hitler mustaches, performing Nazi salutes and leading hate speeches. The case was widely covered by Argentine media.
We at DAIA, Argentina´s Jewish political umbrella, is representing 140 organisations, Jewish and non-Jewish, in the fight against discrimination. We try to teach people to see the realty from another person’s perspective. No body is born with hate for the other, they learn. We try to teach about what happened in the Holocaust as a paradigm that can happen to others.
If I will say that all Germans are not good, I will be just like them, like the people in Bariloche. Not all students in the Jewish school are Jewish, and not all Jews send their children to a Jewish school. My husband and I chose to send our three daughters to a German school, that was actually founded by a Jewish German man after the Holocaust."
